7 tips to lose weight avoiding bad breath

Diets used to lose weight can cause bad breath. In this article you will find 7 tips to avoid halitosis.Frequently, diets used to lose weight can generate bad breath due to the composition of diet foods. In this article, Dr. Jonas Nunes of the “Institudo del Aliento” will give you 7 tips to lose weight without affecting our breath.

  1. Eat every four hours. Prolonged fasts often cause halitosis, due to the body's processes to replenish blood sugar. We recommend making five small meals a day and avoiding severe hypoglycaemia.

  2. Avoid diets with excess of proteins. This type of regimen can cause bad breath since the bacteria use the proteins to provoke the bad odor.

  3. Eat a minimum of carbohydrates or acidic substances. Glucose inhibits the proliferation of halitosis-producing bacteria.

  4. Consume solid foods rich in fiber. Foods with high fiber require more chewing, which promotes the production of saliva. Also in their passage through the mouth, these foods can help to eliminate bacteria that cause halitosis. Vegetables and fruits can be a great ally in this regard.

  5. Stay hydrated. Dehydration causes a decrease in the production of saliva. Drink water and liquids with a slight acid taste, but no sugar.

  6. Avoid alcohol. Alcohol doesn’t help to lose weight and also can cause halitosis due to its composition and its dehydrating effect.

  7. Avoid foods with intense odors. Garlic, onion, eggs, spices or coffee can generate bad odors in the mouth. On the opposite side, some foods like mushrooms or Taiwan tea are great allies against this problem.

We hope these tips can help you lose weight and control bad breath. We are the first Galician medical dental clinic specialized in halitosis problems so we will be happy to assist you.
