Temporomandibular joint dysfunction and bruxism – 3D Video

3D about temporomandibular dysfunction, a problem in the joint that connects the jaw to skull, which it may be caused by bruxism. In this video we talk about 3d temporomandibular dysfunction, a problem in the joint that connects the jaw to the skull and allows us to speak and chew. This dysfunction may end up causing jaw pain, headaches, neck pain, limited mouth opening and clicking when moving the jaw.

Problems in the temporomandibular joint may be caused by congenital abnormalities of the condyles, due to a bad form of biting or underlying problems such as bruxism. Bruxism is the habit of grinding or clenching teeth, usually during sleep. It is usually caused by a state of anxiety but it can also have a genetic origin. In the first stages, bruxism can cause wear and tooth sensitivity, and muscle and joint pain. In advanced cases, bruxism can end up causing advanced wear, tooth fractures or significant decrease in the size of the teeth.

To identify unwanted contacts in an inadequate occlusion, articulating papers are used and molds of the patient’s mouth are made. Unwanted contacts are posteriorly analyzed in order to plan the proper treatment. One of the possible solutions to bruxism is making a mouth guard, which is placed in the maxilla and will protect teeth and temporomandibular joint.
